Consisting of two Ethernet ports, two mini-PCI (radio cards), and two RS-232 ports, the EZPlatformTM is a user-configurable generic platform which allows regular ISPs as well as special application operators to create their own ideal systems easily and cost-effectively. It is designed for either indoor or outdoor network use.
For ISPs and WISPs, the back-to-back repeater application using the same frequency radio cards is the most intuitive one. Beyond that, by integrating with Teletronics best- selling TT subscriber units, the EZPlatformTM provides a powerful end-to-end system for a wireless Internet network.
For special application operators, the EZPlatform draws immediate attention from the GPS operators who would insert a 5.8GHz radio card with the data input from a GPS receiver via the RS-232 port, thus enabling long-range reporting of the location of a vehicle to multiple audiences via the Internet. One can further furnish another 2.4GHz radio card for in-vehicle passengers’ use or for communicating with those waiting nearby at the curb side of the vehicle. Still better, the other RS-232 port can be used to connect with a camera or an RFID, operated under the command of either a 2.4GHz or 5.8GHz radio, inside or outside of the vehicle, locally or remotely.
For the surveillance community, the EZPlatform could have one or several surveillance monitors attached to the RS-232 ports. The platform could also be configured to allow one 802.11DSSS radio to work with another FHSS radio, with a view that the hopper can provide better narrow band images in tunnels, mines, or alleys under a scattering/refraction environment.
For building business brand-name systems, the EZPlatform™ is truly an easy platform which can be applied to generic network appliances as a firewall, bandwidth controller, VPN gateway and/or router. In all configurations, the two IP ports offer multiple connectivities, for IP-based voice, data and digital video. The customer can simply purchase the EZPlatform bare-bone board to design and integrate its own system.
In short, the EZPlatform™ is a motherboard with many versatile uses. Teletronics offers engineering support for special developments, making the use of the system with EZPlatform viable. Different from those “comparable” multi-slot router products in the market, the EZPlatform has an innovative PoE design which adopts to a wide-range of DC power sources, from 10 to 60 VDC, allowing the platform to be suitable for use in boats, RVs, buses, Internet hotspots and long range IP-based data-link relays. The radio cards can be high-power cards. It supports Linux 2.6 Kernel with flexible manufacturing options and RoHS compliance.
There are two categories of EZPlatforms that Teletronics offers as standard off-the-shelf products. Category 1 products are stand-alone bare-bone boards for generic router/gateway applications, and are being offered at $200 each as a pre-production sample. Category 2 products, dedicated mainly for WISPs as AP/Hotspot/Repeater products, are priced between $1,000 to $1,500 each as a pre-production sample. These units contains two 1W radios which can be used as a base station, hotspot or as a repeater. The radio is configurable to support 900MHz/2.4/3.5/4.9/5.8GHz.
